His earliest memories are of the west Dallas Honky-Tonks where his father played country music. Smoke-filled, neon infused, beer joints like ‘York’s Bar’ & ‘Jackson's’. The love for country music came honestly enough. ‘I remember as a very young child, sitting on my bedroom floor while spinning Johnny Cash’s newly released ‘Ring Of Fire” over and over on my little record player. I had no idea who he was, but his image on the album cover seemed larger than life.” As a teenager, while his peers were listening to Black Sabbath & Led Zepplin, Temper poured over the sounds of Jerry Jeff Walker, Gary P. Nunn, Linda Ronstadt, Ray Wylie Hubbard & Rusty Wier. “I was drawn to that music and it made a lasting impression on me.
