Posted 840 days ago by zephyrinusWhy do people in authority think they do not have to follow the rules? Not only rules in general, but rules they make and enforce themselves. You see this all the time from Congress to Wall Street, all the way down to the police and your bosses. Are they just that arrogant that they think the rules don't apply to them?
In the defense of the police, I hope you aren't talking about driving habits! I know it seems as if we don't think the rules apply to us... and in Texas when we are on duty they don't apply to us (the law excludes officers on duties from the rules of the road). But just so you know we don't intentionally disobey the rules of the road. You never know where we may be going or who we are after. When I'm on duty I do my very best to follow the rules but sometimes me keeping my hands on the wheel at all times is more important. Even removing my hands to use a turn signal can be dangerous. Most times when we drive like crazy people it is because there is an officer who needs us... and sometimes I am in the middle of hauling ass to help a fellow officer and someone beats me to it so I immediately slow down and resume what I was doing. To a lot of people this looks like we are driving like an idiot and then suddenly we pull someone over. I wasn't driving like an idiot to pull someone over, it just happened I no longer needed to help that officer so I slowed down and then pulled someone over. I work hard every day and help just as many as I put in jail. When I am off duty I do my very best to follow the rules of the road but sometimes it is hard to break the habit of driving like I am in a patrol car. I hope you have it in your heart to understand that It is not intentional. I hope you can trust that one day if you call the police and you need them, they will be there for you and treat you with respect. I know that as an officer I strive every day to treat everyone with respect - even the criminals. ~Posted 839 days ago
Most cops I know are awsome. With that being said, some do show this "I live by my own Law" mentallity. I think these are the ones who were picked on as a kid.~Posted 785 days ago
