Earl Musick and Mark Merritt have been playing music and writing songs together for ten years now, and yet it seems like twenty! Earl meet Mark through a mutual friend, they hit it off and decided to work together at RockHouse studio, Mark's a very good recording engineer and he's recorded and produced several albums over the years.
But both Earl & Mark are musicians and songwriters first and foremost. And together have written several songs together. Earl released Privateer in 2004 and Mark released Peace of Me in 2005. Then Earl and Mark wrote a batch of songs that later became Earl's Duck & Cover album released in 2006.
In 2007 Earl & Mark had written a batch of new songs and decided to do an all acoustic record, the end result was Woodshed'n. Woodshed'n was recorded at RockHouse studio, the home studio for Reload Records. As with all recording it took a twist; while recording they just couldn't find the right sound for their acoustic instruments in the main room. and they kept trying moving mic's around and using different mic's, nothing was working!
While sitting in the office/lounge area pick'n and talking it dawn on them that they did most of the writing in this area, and it has a great sound. So they moved the mic's sit up some chairs, and commenced to record. Well the sound that was produced was what they were looking for, and the real recording began.
Woodshed'n is a live in the studio record, the only overdubs that were done was because we only have two hands. We wanted mandolin and harp on a couple of songs so they were overdubbed.
But the main jest of the album is live, just like you hear the boys live. The end result became Woodshed'n, we hope you enjoy it, as much as we enjoyed making it..
Peace!
